PUTRAJAYA: Thailand’s Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, will undertake a two-day official visit to Malaysia starting tomorrow at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this visit is his first official visit to Malaysia since being reappointed as Prime Minister in March.

On the second day of the leader’s visit, both Prime Ministers will undertake a joint visit to Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, to officiate the new road between the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS) Bukit Kayu Hitam, Malaysia, and the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) Sadao, Thailand.

It said that upon arrival in the country, Anutin will be honoured at an official welcoming ceremony at the Bunga Raya Complex, followed by a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss and assess the progress of Malaysia-Thailand bilateral relations.

“This includes discussing efforts to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, border connectivity, security, agriculture, tourism, education and people-to-people relations.

“Both leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues within the ASEAN framework as well as other regional cooperation mechanisms,” it said today.

Wisma Putra said that both Prime Ministers will also witness the signing ceremony and exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the agricultural sector, reflecting the shared commitment of Malaysia and Thailand to continue strengthening cooperation in that sector.

It said that the Prime Minister will then host a luncheon in honour of Anutin and the Thai delegation.

It said that this visit is part of a series of exchange visits at the Prime Ministerial level following Anwar’s Working Visit to Thailand from 17 to 19 April 2025 and the official visit of the former Thai Prime Minister to Malaysia on 16 December 2024.

“This reflects the close and friendly ties between the two countries as neighbours and ASEAN Member States,” it said.

In 2025, Thailand was Malaysia’s sixth largest trading partner globally and second largest among ASEAN countries, with total trade amounting to RM118.57 billion (US$27.73 billion).

For the period of January to March 2026, bilateral trade between Malaysia and Thailand reached RM31.33 billion (US$7.90 billion), compared to RM27.35 billion (US$6.15 billion) in the same period in 2025.
