Kedah League Opens Opportunity For Players To Join PERR 2026 Squad

JITRA: The Kedah League 2026, which kicked off yesterday and will run for three months, is set to become the main pathway for talented football players to join the Kedah state squad in the 2026 Raja-Raja Gold Cup (PERR 2026) competition scheduled for September this season.

Patron of the Kedah Darul Aman Malay Football Association (PBMK), Datuk Zuraidi Rahim, said that his dream is to see the emergence of new talents from the Kedah League being absorbed into the Kedah PERR 2026 squad this year.

“Last year we only managed to reach the quarter-finals, and this time I target those selected to win the tournament because there are attractive incentives awaiting players in this season’s competition.

“That is why we are instilling the spirit in every player through the Kedah League 2026 by opening up opportunities to those with high determination to earn a place in the Kedah Raja-Raja Gold Cup squad this season.

“To me, this is a starting step by PBMK, with the help of friends from the Kedah Football Association (KFA), that we are trying to spark in order to see new players’ talents in this state being showcased at a higher level in the future,” he said.

Zuraidi also said that the Kedah League 2026 competition, represented by teams from all over Kedah, is an effort to enliven the spirit of football among the youth of Kedah while serving as the best platform to improve the quality of football achievement in Kedah itself.

A total of 16 teams from across Kedah are competing for the Datuk Zuraidi Rahim Cup (DZR Cup), held at two venues involving the Kubang Pasu Municipal Council (MPKP) Mini Stadium in Jitra and the Pendang Mini Stadium.

The opening match of the Kedah League took place in a lively atmosphere in front of more than 500 supporters, who watched Jentayu FC from Langkawi take on MADA FC from Alor Setar at the Kubang Pasu Municipal Council (MPKP) Stadium, with Jentayu FC emerging victorious 3-2.
