‘Rohingya Flat’ Completely Demolished

HULU LANGAT: The viral structure known as the ‘Rohingya Flat’ in Kampung Sungai Makau, near Sungai Tekali here, has been completely demolished.

A survey by Harian Metro found that cleaning work is being carried out by the landowner, including at the illegal housing area behind the flat that went viral.

It is understood that the cleaning of construction waste is expected to take several weeks to be carried out according to proper procedures.

Meanwhile, a reporter’s observation at the location found no sign of foreign nationals, particularly Rohingya, around the village.

Harian Metro understands that the group of foreign nationals was often seen looking for scrap iron around the area, but since the issue ‘exploded’ recently, they have begun to reduce their movements.

A reporter’s observation at about 10 a.m. today in several villages near the area also found no foreign nationals roaming around.

Following that, the reporter moved to two hidden locations shared by local residents, which were allegedly used as settlements for foreign nationals including Rohingya on private land, but from a distance, the area appeared deserted with no movement.

A resident, Rahim (not his real name), said that the group of refugees had grown in number and were frequently seen around the area since five years ago, but the elderly man believes they have been there much longer.

“It is good to chase them away, not because of anything else, but because when there are too many of them, there are all sorts of behaviour. What I dislike most is their dirty habits; sometimes they casually chew betel leaves and spit everywhere.

“But this problem is also our people’s fault, those who rent out to them. If our local people did not rent out houses, they would not be so many here,” he said when met today.
