KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) has channelled benefits amounting to more than RM1.2 million to Insured Persons (OB) under the Non-Work-Related Accident Scheme or LINDUNG 24 Hour within one month of its enforcement.
PERKESO in a statement today informed that within the same period, 592 applications were received.
According to the statement, within the first month, the highest amount of benefit payments under the LINDUNG 24 Hour scheme involved implant costs totalling RM1.16 million, followed by Temporary Disablement Benefit (FHUS) amounting to RM99,269.
“On average, nearly 20 cases per day were recorded under LINDUNG 24 Hour, thus manifesting PERKESO’s efforts to close the gaps in social protection existing in Malaysia. Previously, incidents outside working hours were not covered, but with LINDUNG 24 Hour, the situation has now changed.
“The focus of social protection is no longer centred on commuting incidents or workplace mishaps, but has become more comprehensive even when at home,” the statement read.
PERKESO informed that coverage outside working hours for contributors under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) is automatic, even though contribution deductions have not yet been implemented, and this reflects the importance and true role of LINDUNG 24 Hour as a more comprehensive social safety net for the people.
According to the statement, PERKESO is committed to expanding awareness of the LINDUNG 24 Hour scheme so that more people are aware of its benefits, as well as ensuring that no group of workers is left out from receiving protection, including outside working hours.
The expansion of social security protection spearheaded by PERKESO includes, among others, the channelling of Temporary Disablement Benefit (FHUS), which is payment to contributors during sick leave for as long as they are unable to work.
Also provided are medical and surgical treatment payments, implant costs, Permanent Disablement Benefit (FHUK) based on assessments by the Medical Board, Dependants Benefit (FOT), Constant Attendance Allowance (ELS), as well as rehabilitation payments at PERKESO rehabilitation centres.
