Firefighters Rescue Family of Six Trapped by Flash Flood in Yan
YAN: A family of six, including a four-month-old baby, were successfully rescued by firefighters after being trapped due to overflowing river water following a flash flood incident along Jalan Batu Hampar, here, today.
Yan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, Fire Superintendent Mohd Farid Mohd Razali said the department received an emergency call at 10.16 a.m. before a team of six personnel was rushed to Kampung Permatang Keramat to carry out the rescue operation.
According to him, upon arrival at the location, it was found that the flash flood phenomenon had caused river water to overflow into the village area, resulting in six victims, aged between four months and 51 years, being trapped.
“The Operations Control Centre (PGO) of the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) received an emergency call through the NG999 hotline, informing that overflowing river water had flooded the village area and that there were victims trapped.
“The Operations Commander reported that upon arrival at the scene, it was found that a flash flood phenomenon had occurred, causing river water to overflow into the village area,” he said.
Mohd Farid said the Operations Commander reported that the fire brigade carried out the rescue operation by crossing the flooded area using a rope system to ensure the safety of personnel when accessing and rescuing the trapped victims.
He said all the victims consisted of two women aged 37 and 51, a 17-year-old male teenager, a three-year-old boy, a 28-year-old adult male and a four-month-old baby boy.
“All of them were handed over to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) for further action.
“The operation was fully completed at 11.19 a.m.,” he said.
