Salesman Pleads Guilty To Slashing Motorcyclist Until Seriously Injured

SHAH ALAM – A salesman who went viral for slashing a motorcyclist until he was seriously injured on the Federal Highway last week, pleaded guilty to the offence at the Sessions Court here today.

The accused, Azmi Jantan, 43, made the plea after the charge was read out by the court interpreter before Datin Fatimah Zahari.

However, the court set July 8 for case facts and sentencing.

Based on the charge, he was accused of intentionally causing serious injury to Mohd. Fairus Jaafar, 45, by slashing him using a meat cleaver, which is a weapon capable of causing death, at Kilometre 14.6 of the Federal Highway motorcycle lane, Section 13 here, at approximately 8.19 am on June 11.

As such, the accused, who is married but has no children, was charged with an offence punishable under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping.

The court then set bail at RM15,000, and the accused is required to report to a police station every month until the case is concluded.
