KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national preparedness and logistical resilience following a working visit by Defence Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali to the Defence Storage Depot (DSD).

The visit included an operational briefing and inspections of warehouse facilities to assess the management of the nation’s Defence Reserve Stocks (SSP) and Emergency Relief Stocks, which play a crucial role in supporting national security and humanitarian response efforts.

During the visit, Datuk Lokman was briefed on the depot’s operations, including the management, storage, maintenance and distribution of strategic stockpiles. The Defence Storage Depot serves as a key component of Malaysia’s preparedness framework, ensuring that essential resources and supplies remain available and ready for deployment at all times.

Officials highlighted that DSP has successfully maintained 100 per cent readiness of stocks under its custody, enabling the government to respond swiftly and effectively to defence requirements, emergency situations, natural disasters and humanitarian assistance operations.

The ministry said the depot’s capabilities not only support military readiness but also strengthen the government’s capacity to coordinate rapid responses during crises and disaster relief missions.

The visit also brought together representatives from several key agencies and organisations, reflecting a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to national preparedness. Among those in attendance were officials from the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), and the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD).

According to the ministry, the engagement provided an opportunity to enhance inter-agency coordination, facilitate knowledge-sharing and strengthen collaboration in addressing increasingly complex security challenges, humanitarian crises and disaster-related emergencies.

Discussions during the visit also focused on strategic issues related to logistics governance, resilient supply chains and opportunities for cooperation at both the national and international levels.

The Ministry of Defence said the initiative aligns with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI and reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening institutional capabilities, improving operational efficiency and enhancing the nation’s overall readiness to face future challenges.

The visit underscores the government’s continued efforts to ensure that Malaysia remains well-prepared to safeguard national interests and respond effectively to emergencies through coordinated planning, robust logistics management and strong inter-agency partnerships.
