KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s social health protection scheme, mySalam, has benefited more than 1.88 million Malaysians, with total claims paid reaching RM1.423 billion as of Dec 31, 2025, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi said the programme, managed by the Ministry of Finance, was launched in 2019 with an allocation of RM2.37 billion and continues to provide financial protection to eligible recipients of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) assistance programme and their spouses up to the age of 65.

Speaking at the government’s weekly press briefing, Fahmi, who also serves as the MADANI government spokesperson, said mySalam offers three key benefits to eligible participants.

These include a daily hospitalisation allowance of RM50 for up to 14 days per year, equivalent to a maximum annual benefit of RM700; a one-off payment of up to RM8,000 for individuals diagnosed with one of 50 critical illnesses; and medical device assistance claims of up to RM30,000.

“For the hospitalisation benefit alone, a total of 1.294 million recipients have received assistance, with payouts amounting to RM394.87 million,” he said.

The mySalam initiative was introduced to ease the financial burden of healthcare costs among lower-income groups and vulnerable households, ensuring they receive support during periods of illness or medical emergencies.

The government said the scheme remains an important component of Malaysia’s social protection framework, providing eligible citizens with access to financial assistance for hospitalisation, critical illnesses, and essential medical devices.

Since its introduction, mySalam has continued to expand its reach, helping millions of Malaysians cope with healthcare-related expenses while strengthening the country’s social safety net.
