TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei has warned that the United States and Israel are attempting to create division and instability inside Iran after failing to achieve their goals through military aggression.
In a message issued on Thursday marking the anniversary of the first session of Iran’s parliament, the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Ayatollah Khamenei said foreign enemies were now focusing on psychological warfare and social fragmentation following what he described as their defeat during the recent conflict with Iran.
“The enemy’s blind scheme after the imposed war, economic pressure, propaganda and siege is to create discord and social division in order to compensate for its failures on the battlefield and weaken the Iranian nation,” he said.
The Leader congratulated the Iranian people on Eid al-Adha and the anniversary of the parliament’s inauguration, while also praising lawmakers and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf for their efforts in serving the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei described the parliament as “the essence of the nation” and a symbol of religious democracy in the Islamic Republic, emphasising its important role in representing the will of the people and guiding the country’s future.
Referring to the recent 40-day conflict involving the United States and Israel, which began on February 28 and ended on April 8 following Iran’s retaliatory strikes on U.S. and Israeli positions in the region, the Leader said the war demonstrated the Iranian nation’s faith, unity and determination.
He called on lawmakers to focus on rebuilding the country, addressing economic difficulties, increasing production and employment, advancing science and industry, fighting corruption, controlling inflation and reducing poverty.
According to him, parliamentary legislation should directly address the people’s concerns and contribute to creating hope and strengthening the country’s future.
Ayatollah Khamenei also stressed the importance of cooperation between parliament, the government and the judiciary under the slogan of a “resistance economy in the shadow of national unity and national security”.
He said priorities should include economic stability, reducing inflation, boosting domestic production, revising development plans and supporting reconstruction efforts following what he referred to as the “second and third imposed wars”.
The Iranian leader further urged politicians, intellectuals and members of parliament to safeguard national unity and avoid political disputes that could deepen social divisions.
He described national unity as one of the greatest strengths behind Iran’s resistance against what he called the “Great Satan”, referring to the United States.
Ayatollah Khamenei concluded by calling on all Iranians who support Islam, the Islamic Revolution and Iran’s independence to work together in preserving solidarity and preventing disagreements from turning into internal conflict.
He also wished lawmakers success in representing what he described as a resilient nation standing against oppression and foreign aggression.
