Tourism Malaysia Hosts Global Media for Mega Fam Programme in Conjunction with Rain Rave Water Music Festival
KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism Malaysia has welcomed more than 40 international media representatives under its Mega Familiarization Trip (Mega Fam) Program, held from 30 April to 4 May 2026, in conjunction with the Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026 and World Labor Day celebrations.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen global visibility for Malaysia ahead of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, which promotes the country as a culturally rich and sustainable tourism destination.
The Rain Rave Water Music Festival serves as a key urban tourism activation, featuring three themed zones: the Rhythm of Cultures craft bazaar, the Rhythm of Flavors food market with 50 stalls, and the Rhythm of Rain main stage showcasing live performances. The festival brings together tourism stakeholders, creative industry players, and commercial partners while boosting visitor spending across retail, hospitality, and services sectors.
The Mega Fam Programme hosted 41 media representatives from East Asia, Oceania, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, including countries such as Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam. The initiative aims to strengthen engagement with international media and highlight Malaysia’s diverse cultural and tourism offerings.
Participants experienced a five-day, four-night familiarization journey across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Putrajaya. The itinerary included visits to key attractions such as Skyline Luge at Gamuda Cove, the HOHO City Tour, Immersify KL, and a cruise experience in Putrajaya, offering a comprehensive showcase of Malaysia’s urban lifestyle, culture, and infrastructure.
According to Tourism Malaysia, this is the third Mega Fam program in 2026, following earlier editions themed around Ramadan and the Vaisakhi Festival. The series is designed to continuously promote Malaysia’s cultural diversity and strengthen its global tourism positioning.
“The Mega Fam Programme remains an initiative that contributes directly to Malaysia’s tourism growth by engaging global media and key opinion leaders,” said Tourism Malaysia Director General YBrs. Mr. Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim. He added that immersive experiences help build long-term partnerships to support tourism promotion beyond VM2026.
Malaysia recorded 42.2 million visitor arrivals in 2025, reflecting an 11.2% increase compared to 2024. Tourism Malaysia expressed confidence that continued collaboration with international media and industry partners will further drive sustainable growth and enhance the country’s global tourism appeal.
