KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14: Chairman of the UMNO Overseas Club (Kelab UMNO Luar Negara KULN), Datuk Mohamad Alamin, has called on UMNO members abroad to remain united and play a stronger role in upholding the party’s relevance and future direction.

Mohamad, who is also a member of UMNO’s Supreme Council (MKT), said all party members must prioritize UMNO’s interests in order to determine a clear and sustainable path forward, particularly in the face of political challenges.

“We must think seriously about UMNO’s direction. The situation in Sabah is different, while in Peninsular Malaysia it is also quite difficult. I agree that at this time, we must place the party’s interests above all else to shape our future,” he said.

He acknowledged that while making decisions may appear easy, ensuring the party’s long-term survival for future generations is far more complex.

“Do we want to leave this party to the next generation in its current condition?” he questioned.

Mohamad made these remarks during his speech at a dinner held in conjunction with the UMNO General Assembly 2025 (PAU 2025), attended by KULN delegates on Tuesday.

He stressed that UMNO’s presence in the Unity Government is crucial to safeguarding executive power, particularly in protecting Malay interests.

“At present, the UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, holds the position of Deputy Prime Minister in the Unity Government,” he said.

“We must continue to stand together to ensure UMNO remains alive in difficult times. Maintaining our position within the government is essential to preserving executive authority,” he added.

Mohamad also revealed that three representatives from KULN will serve as speakers during the debates at this year’s UMNO General Assembly.

“For PAU this time, we have three speakers: one from Egypt, a representative for the UMNO Youth movement from Auckland, and a representative for the UMNO Women’s Wing (Puteri UMNO) from Indonesia,” he said.

He expressed hope that the appointed speakers would present fresh perspectives shaped by their experiences abroad.

“You interact with diverse communities in your respective countries, and naturally your thinking will be different. We want to understand how outsiders view Malaysia and UMNO,” he said, urging delegates to give them strong support.

Mohamad further noted that UMNO Overseas Club currently has 22 branches worldwide and pledged to work harder to expand its presence.

“I hope Kelab UMNO Luar Negara will continue to play a significant role in strengthening and elevating UMNO’s standing internationally,” he said.
