Trump Urges Justice Department to Investigate Epstein’s Alleged Ties to Bill Clinton and Other Democrats

WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has called on the Justice Department to open an investigation into the late financier Jeffrey Epstein’s connections with several high-profile Democratic figures, including former President Bill Clinton, following the release of congressional documents raising questions about Trump’s own past ties to Epstein.

Trump announced on Friday that he also wants inquiries into Larry Summers, former Treasury Secretary, and Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn founder and major Democratic donor. He claimed all three had closer associations with Epstein than he did.

“Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat’s problem, not the Republican’s problem!” Trump wrote on social media, insisting that allegations should focus on Epstein’s relationships within the Democratic establishment.

The Justice Department has yet to comment on Trump’s request.

A congressional committee earlier this week released thousands of documents shedding new light on Epstein’s network and raising fresh scrutiny of Trump’s interactions with him. Though Trump and Epstein were known to be friends in the 1990s and early 2000s, Trump maintains that he cut ties prior to Epstein’s 2008 conviction for sex offenses involving minors.

JPMorgan, in a statement, reiterated that it ended its relationship with Epstein long before his 2019 arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.

“We regret any association we had with the man but did not help him commit his heinous acts,” the bank said.

Clinton and Summers did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Hoffman also could not be reached.

No credible evidence has surfaced to suggest Clinton, Summers, or Hoffman were involved in Epstein’s criminal activities, and all have previously denied any wrongdoing. Clinton acknowledged flying on Epstein’s private jet several times before Epstein’s 2008 conviction, while Summers and Hoffman had occasional social ties to him.

Despite maintaining his innocence, Trump has faced renewed political pressure as document releases continue to highlight his past association with Epstein—complicating his standing even among supporters.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll in October found that while 90% of Republicans approve of Trump’s overall performance, only 40% approve of his handling of matters related to Epstein.

JPMorgan previously paid $290 million in 2023 to settle claims from Epstein’s victims, following revelations that the bank ignored internal warnings and red flags about his conduct. The bank did not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

As scrutiny intensifies, Trump’s push for an investigation into Democrats appears aimed at shifting attention away from his own historical ties with the disgraced financier.
