From Vision to Reality: The Dome of ASEAN Redefines Regional Identity in Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13: As preparations intensify for the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, to be held from October 26 to 28 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia has unveiled one of the summit’s most anticipated attractions: the “Dome of ASEAN.”

This striking architectural and technological structure, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City Centre, stands as a symbol of regional unity, progress, and innovation. Designed to reflect ASEAN’s evolution since its founding in 1967, the dome fuses art, technology, and nature in a groundbreaking showcase of Malaysia’s creativity and sustainability vision.
The “Dome of ASEAN” integrates advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and LED projection technologies to display daily-changing visuals that tell the story of ASEAN’s growth, diversity, and shared aspirations. Visitors will experience a digital journey through ASEAN’s milestones, from its historical origins to its ambitions for a future powered by innovation and cooperation.

According to Raja Saifful Ridzuwan Raja Kamaruddin, head of the ASEAN Integrated Logistics Secretariat (SILA), the project was inspired shortly after the conclusion of the 46th ASEAN Summit.
“For 2025, Malaysia wanted to go beyond traditional symbolism. The Dome of ASEAN represents a modern, sustainable interpretation of unity while preserving our cultural identity,” said a project spokesperson.

The dome, measuring 20 meters in diameter and 10 meters in height, features a robust scaffolding framework enclosed in reinforced transparent PVC panels, ensuring durability against tropical weather. Its strategic placement near the Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC Park offers a spectacular backdrop for delegates and visitors.
Inside, an immersive LED tunnel transforms in real time, shifting from tranquil river landscapes that symbolize regional connectivity to futuristic scenes depicting technological advancement and economic cooperation.

Floral elements form a key aspect of the design. The hibiscus, Malaysia’s national flower, will be displayed alongside regional blooms representing ASEAN unity. All flowers are 100% natural and locally sourced from nurseries in Kuala Lumpur and Cameron Highlands, refreshed daily to maintain their vibrancy.
“This project is fully Malaysian from digital systems to floral arrangements. Every element reflects our local expertise and pride,” the spokesperson added.
With 80 LED installations integrated into its design, the Dome of ASEAN promises a visually stunning yet energy-efficient experience. Its modular structure reduces material waste and optimizes space within KLCC, accommodating an expected surge of delegates, media personnel, and support staff during the summit.

The initiative is jointly supervised by the ASEAN Summit Secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ensuring top standards of safety, environmental responsibility, and design excellence.
Construction is currently 40% complete, with full completion targeted by October 21. Final safety inspections, motorcade rehearsals, and operational tests are scheduled to begin on October 22.
Once certified, the dome will officially open its doors to ASEAN leaders, dialogue partners, and international guests, serving as both a welcoming space and a powerful visual statement of Malaysia’s leadership and commitment to ASEAN’s shared future.
As the 2025 ASEAN Summit approaches, the Dome of ASEAN stands as a proud testament to Malaysia’s innovation and regional leadership. It embodies not only the architectural excellence and creative vision of the host nation but also the enduring spirit of unity, sustainability, and progress that defines the ASEAN community.
