WASHINGTON, Oct 7: U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday there is a “real chance” of achieving a peace agreement between Hamas and Israel, as negotiators from both sides continue indirect talks in Egypt on the second anniversary of the October 7 conflict.

“We are very close to making a deal on the Middle East that will bring peace to the Middle East,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, where he met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The White House confirmed that U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior adviser Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, are taking part in facilitating the discussions currently underway in Cairo.

“There’s a real chance that we could do something,” Trump said, expressing optimism about a potential breakthrough.
“I think there’s a possibility that we could have peace in the Middle East. It’s something even beyond the Gaza situation. We want a release of the hostages immediately.”

Trump emphasized that the U.S. has been working closely with regional partners to push for a deal and that global support for the American peace framework has been strong.

“Our team is over there now, another team just left, and other countries—literally every country in the world has supported the plan,” he added.

The President reiterated that the United States will do everything possible to ensure that both Hamas and Israel adhere to the terms of any ceasefire agreement reached, should the talks lead to a final accord.

The latest negotiations come amid growing international pressure for a comprehensive ceasefire and renewed efforts to secure the release of hostages still held in Gaza.

While officials in Washington have remained cautious about predicting the outcome, Trump’s remarks mark one of the strongest signals yet that the U.S. administration believes a peace breakthrough could be within reach.
