KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a video call today with nine Malaysian activists and volunteers currently participating in the third wave of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and Thousand Madleens to Gaza (TMTG) humanitarian mission, which aims to challenge Israel’s illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip.
In a Facebook post, the Prime Minister said the Malaysians were aboard the vessels Conscience and TM Denmark Boat in the Mediterranean Sea, now entering the yellow zone, about 300 nautical miles from Gaza’s coast, as they continue their journey toward the besieged Palestinian enclave.
“Their sacrifices in upholding the principles of humanity stand as an exemplary model for all Malaysians especially the younger generation of what true courage, determination, and unwavering solidarity mean,” Anwar said.
During the video call, Anwar expressed his support and offered prayers for the mission’s safe passage, emphasizing Malaysia’s consistent stand for justice, peace, and humanitarian solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The nine Malaysian representatives in the mission include delegation head Prof. Emeritus Dr. Mohd Alauddin Mohd Ali; four doctors, Dr. Fauziah Mohd Hassan, Dr. Hafiz Sulaiman, Dr. Ili Syakira Mohd Suhaimi, and Dr. Maziah Muhammad; two lecturers, Prof. Dr. Mohd Afandi Salleh and Dr.. Noorhasyimah Ismail; MyCARE board member Norsham Abu Bakar; and Astro Awani journalist Syafik Shukri Abdul Jalil.
The flotilla, which comprises around 150 participants from 25 countries, is jointly organized under the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, with MyCARE leading the Malaysian delegation.
During the call, Anwar also provided an update on the 23 Malaysian volunteers detained by Israeli forces during the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) interception on Thursday (Oct 2).
He confirmed that the detained Malaysians were being flown out of Israel to Istanbul aboard a special aircraft arranged by Türkiye and would undergo medical assessments for trauma and stress before returning home to Malaysia.
“Their resilience and courage, despite facing unjust treatment, reflect Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to defending humanity and truth,” Anwar said.
The latest flotilla marks another chapter in ongoing international humanitarian efforts to deliver aid to Gaza, where millions remain under siege amid worsening humanitarian conditions.
Malaysia has consistently supported such missions and reiterated its call for the lifting of Israel’s illegal blockade, which has been in place since 2007.
