Kuala Lumpur, Oct 2: Malaysia has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla, including 12 of its nationals, following the interception of the humanitarian convoy by Israeli forces.

In a statement on Thursday, the Foreign Affairs Ministry (Wisma Putra) said that all activists, humanitarian workers, and crew members, along with their vessels, must be freed without delay, while ensuring that aid to Gaza reaches its intended destination safely.

“The Palestinians are facing genocide, starvation, deteriorating health, and other unimaginable suffering,” the ministry said. “The mission is not only lawful under international law but also a moral obligation that the international community must respect and protect.”

Wisma Putra stressed that the flotilla was a legitimate and peaceful humanitarian initiative aimed at delivering desperately needed aid to Gaza.

“Malaysia strongly condemns the criminal and cowardly acts of aggression by Israeli forces against the Global Sumud Flotilla, a peaceful humanitarian mission carrying life-saving aid to Gaza on October 2, 2025,” the statement read.

It added that the “unprovoked and indiscriminate actions” of Israel constituted a clear violation of international law, including maritime law, humanitarian law, and human rights law.

The ministry urged the United Nations Security Council and the broader international community to take immediate and concrete action to end Israel’s “impunity.”

“Enforce international law and hold Israel responsible for these actions. The international community must no longer tolerate Israel’s blatant disregard for global norms and principles,” it said.

Reaffirming Malaysia’s long-standing support for the Palestinian cause, the ministry concluded, “Malaysia remains resolute in supporting all genuine efforts towards a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
