23 Malaysians to Press Ahead with Global Sumud Flotilla Mission to Gaza

SEPANG, Oct 1 (VoM):A total of 23 Malaysian delegates will continue their participation in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission as it advances from the Yellow Zone to the Red Zone towards Gaza, according to the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC).

SNCC director-general Datuk Dr. Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby said the decision followed a restructuring of the delegation’s roles, necessitated by severe damage to four flotilla vessels that could no longer continue the voyage.

“This restructuring involved seven Malaysian delegates and one Bruneian delegate being reassigned. Another four Malaysian delegates are now placed on observer vessels, which will not enter the Red Zone,” he told a press conference today.

Two Malaysian representatives, Hidayat Abdullah and Nik Aziz Nik Mohammad, will instead be deployed to Amman, Jordan, where they will support the legal team secretariat in preparing necessary documentation and strategies.

Meanwhile, six delegates, including one from Brunei, will return home from Greece and are expected to arrive in Malaysia on Thursday (Oct 2). The group comprises Abdul Rahim Azhari, Muhammad Khairin Afiq Mohd Subkhi, Ahmad Safuan Ujar, Mohd Asri Tuan Hussein, Nur Ilham Fansuri Zainal Rashid, and Rezahmaisalamah Md Yusof (Brunei).

Dr. Sani emphasized that these individuals, though no longer at sea, remain vital to the mission. “They are highly trained and have already endured more than 28 days at sea. Their expertise and experience are essential for analyzing developments and supporting the delegation as the flotilla moves forward.”

The GSF, comprising international activists and humanitarian volunteers, aims to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver a message of solidarity to Palestinians. Despite vessel setbacks, Malaysian participants reaffirmed their commitment to the mission.
