Israel Announces ‘Temporary’ Evacuation Route from Gaza City Amid Ground Offensive

JERUSALEM, Sept. 17 (VoM): Israel on Wednesday announced the opening of a “temporary” evacuation route for Gaza City residents, as its forces pressed forward with a major ground offensive following days of heavy bombardment.

Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a statement that the army had designated Salah Al-Din Street as a safe passage for civilians to leave the embattled city.

“The Israeli military announces the opening of a temporary transportation route via Salah Al-Din Street,” Adraee said, noting that the corridor would remain open for 48 hours only.

The move comes amid intensified military operations in Gaza City, which has faced one of the fiercest bombardments since the start of the latest escalation. Israeli officials said the temporary route was intended to allow civilians to flee ongoing fighting while urging residents to move southward.

The announcement follows growing international concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where infrastructure damage, shortages of food and medical supplies, and mass displacement have escalated sharply since the start of Israel’s military campaign.

It was not immediately clear how many residents would be able to use the temporary corridor or whether safe passage could be guaranteed amid the continuing hostilities.
