KUALA LUMPUR (VoM): Malaysia successfully hosted the 22nd ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Meeting (ACDFM) and its related sessions today at the InterContinental Hotel, reaffirming regional unity as the foundation for security and prosperity.
The meeting, chaired by Chief of Defence Forces of Malaysia, General Tan Sri Haji Mohd Nizam bin Haji Jaffar, brought together defense chiefs and senior delegates from all ASEAN member states under the theme “ASEAN Unity for Security and Prosperity.”
Ahead of the main session, the 15th ASEAN Military Operations Meeting (AMOM) and the 22nd ASEAN Military Intelligence Meeting (AMIM) were convened on 8 September. Lieutenant-General Dato’ Mohd Razali bin Alias, Chief of Defence Intelligence of the Malaysian Armed Forces, presented the AMIM outcomes, while Major-General Dato’ Indera Zahari bin Mohd Ariffin, Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations and Training), shared the AMOM results.
During the ACDFM, delegates exchanged views on strengthening military cooperation, regional security, and collective preparedness. Myanmar’s representative, Lt-Gen Than Htike, stressed that ASEAN unity remains the key to ensuring lasting progress and development in the region.
The meeting endorsed the Two-Year Work Plan (2025–2027) for ASEAN militaries and formally adopted the Joint Statement of the 22nd ACDFM, which was signed by all chiefs of defense forces. A commemorative photo session followed the signing ceremony.
General Mohd Nizam later delivered his closing remarks, officially handing over the ACDFM chairmanship to General Romeo Saturnino Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, who will host the 23rd edition.
On the sidelines, the Myanmar delegation held bilateral discussions with defense leaders from Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia, focusing on strengthening ties, boosting cooperation, and enhancing mutual understanding. Commemorative gifts were also exchanged.
The series of meetings highlighted ASEAN’s commitment to closer defense collaboration, building confidence, and safeguarding the region’s peace and stability.
