MELAKA, Sept 10 (VoM): Malaysia and Vietnam have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation on cybersecurity during the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) in Melaka.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail held a bilateral meeting with Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang, focusing on strengthening security collaboration under the Cross-Border Memorandum of Understanding between the two nations.

Cybersecurity was highlighted as the main agenda of cooperation. Malaysia confirmed that it is in the process of joining the Budapest Convention on Cybercrime and will officially sign the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime in Hanoi this October.

The Malaysian delegation was led by the Ministry of Home Affairs Secretary-General Datuk Awang Alik Jeman, along with other senior officials. The Vietnamese delegation was headed by Lt. Gen. Dang Xuan Hong, Director General of the Department of External Relations.

During the meeting, General Quang extended an official invitation to Saifuddin Nasution to visit Vietnam in October, aimed at further strengthening longstanding bilateral relations.

Melaka is hosting the 19th AMMTC and related meetings from Sept 8 to 12, under Malaysia’s ASEAN 2025 Chairmanship. Themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” the gathering reflects Malaysia’s commitment to building a safe and prosperous ASEAN Community.
