KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31: The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, held in Malaysia’s capital from Oct 26 to 28, concluded successfully without any security incidents, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced today.
Speaking in Parliament during the Supply Bill (Budget) 2026 debate for the Home Ministry, Saifuddin said the seamless execution of the high-level summit reflected the strong coordination and preparedness of Malaysia’s security and enforcement agencies.
“This success is a testament to the professionalism and readiness of all security agencies involved, particularly the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM),” he said.
“There were virtually no security disturbances throughout the period when Malaysia hosted 23 heads of state.”
Saifuddin extended his appreciation to both agencies for their “strong commitment and significant contributions” in ensuring the summit’s safety and operational smoothness before, during, and after the event.
Earlier, he revealed that 10,492 police personnel and 3,000 immigration officers were deployed during the summit to maintain high security standards and facilitate smooth operations at key entry points nationwide.
The three-day summit marked several historic milestones for ASEAN, including the formal participation of Timor-Leste as the bloc’s 11th member state and the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord between Thailand and Cambodia, mediated by Malaysia.
This year’s gathering was also notable for its extensive international participation, featuring global leaders such as United States President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who currently chairs the BRICS alliance (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
“Hosting such a major international event involving multiple world leaders without a single security incident demonstrates Malaysia’s capability, discipline, and international credibility,” Saifuddin said.
The 47th ASEAN Summit was Malaysia’s fifth time hosting the event and, according to the Home Minister, also its largest in terms of participation and security deployment.
Saifuddin reaffirmed that the government will continue to strengthen inter-agency coordination and invest in modern security technologies to ensure Malaysia remains a trusted and capable host for future international events.
