JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 131 foreigners and one local employer were detained last Thursday after the Immigration Department raided identified hotspots in the state.
According to Berita Harian, the arrests resulted from inspections at 87 hotspots, including food courts, wet markets, shop houses, worker dormitories, construction sites, and massage centers.
Johor Immigration Director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said the operation was carried out simultaneously by a team of officers from the Johor Bahru Immigration Enforcement Division, as well as from Mersing, Batu Pahat, Segamat, and Muar.
“The operations in Senai and Johor Bahru included Ops Selera, Ops Belanja, and Ops Gegar, involving inspections at 65 premises such as wet markets, food courts, and massage centers. A total of 206 individuals, including both foreigners and locals, were inspected.
“The arrests involved 106 foreigners: 26 Indonesian men and 32 Indonesian women, 29 Myanmar men and 8 Myanmar women, 5 Bangladeshi men, 3 Vietnamese women, 1 Filipino man, and 1 Nepalese man,” he said in a statement.
