1,200 operators for bus workers appeal to the government to give diesel subsidies
SHAH ALAM: More than 1,200 operators for bus workers appealed to the government to consider the inclusion of the sector in the Subsidized Diesel Control System (SKDS) 2.0 following the increase in diesel oil prices from last Monday.
According to Kosmo Online, the group is now burdened because it is tied to a factory contract of between one and three years for the transport service.
The president of the Association of Malaysian Bus Operators Association, Jackie Chew Soo Mee, said operators cannot arbitrarily raise fares due to old contractual ties with factories.
He explained that the situation clearly puts pressure on those who need to take out their own capital to cover the increase in diesel prices.
“Entrepreneurs previously spent RM3,500 on diesel, but now it reaches RM5,000 per month not including servicing and replacement of vehicle parts,” he said at a press conference in Kota Kemuning.
Earlier, he and more than 200 bus operators across the country gathered to express an appeal on the issue.
Jackie added that his party had submitted a letter of application to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport on June 6 but had not received any response.
