JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor government will fully cooperate with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and relevant authorities in conducting a thorough investigation into the death of a female student at a secondary school in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat.

Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Dr Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali said the state government views the incident seriously as it involves the safety and welfare of students on school grounds.

He said the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ), together with the Batu Pahat District Education Office (PPD), had been instructed to provide full support to the authorities throughout the investigation.

“I want to stress that there will be no compromise on any form of bullying, violence or criminal behaviour that could threaten the safety of the school community. However, whether this incident involved any such elements must be determined based on the authorities’ investigation and not through speculation.

“Schools must remain a safe place for every child in Johor — a place where they can pursue their education, build their future and be in an environment that protects their safety and well-being,” he said in a statement today.

Muhammad Naqib added that his office, together with JPNJ and relevant agencies, would continue to focus on safety at educational institutions and take appropriate follow-up action based on the findings of the authorities’ investigation.

“Meanwhile, I urge all parties, including the public and social media users, not to speculate, spread unverified information or draw premature conclusions that could interfere with the investigation and add to the grief of the victim’s family,” he said.

Earlier, the media reported that a Form Four female student was found dead in a suspected murder at a school in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, yesterday afternoon.
