Two killed in gunfight with cops in Butterworth
BUTTERWORTH: Two suspected criminals were murdered in a gunfight with police on Jalan Permatang Baru in Sungai Lokan at 2 a.m. on Wednesday (June 26).
When contacted, Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad verified the event and stated that the inquiry is being conducted under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960.
Earlier, it was understood that a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team from the state contingent police headquarters and the Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) district police headquarters discovered a strangely driven car at the intersection of Jalan Pokok Sena and Jalan Permatang Baru.
The police then asked the driver to stop his vehicle, but the suspect resisted and accelerated before shooting numerous shots at the police.
Following that, police had to respond to the shooting before discovering the two local suspects, both covered in blood and declared dead on the scene.
