KUALA TERENGGANU: Police arrested two brothers on suspicion of turning their home in Kampung Duyong Besar here into a drug storage facility worth RM1.76 million, last Sunday.

Terengganu Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said the raid at 3.30 pm through Ops Tapis Khas arrested men aged 39 and 50, and seized cannabis flowers weighing approximately 22 kilogrammes.

“Initial investigations found that the two suspects acted as storage keepers for a syndicate believed to have been active since last March.”

Mohd Khairi said both suspects tested negative for drugs, while the 50-year-old suspect has 13 past criminal records related to drugs.

He said the seized drugs are estimated to be sufficient for approximately 44,000 addicts and are believed to be destined for the international market.

“The cannabis flowers need to be processed to obtain liquid which we believe is used as a flavouring for electronic cigarettes that can produce hallucinogenic effects,” he said.

Mohd Khairi said police also seized various assets worth RM149,000, namely a Hyundai Tucson car, BMW motorcycle, Yamaha NVX and Yamaha 135LC, as well as cash amounting to RM6,000.

He said the remand of the two brothers has been extended for seven days starting today, to enable further investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In addition, he said Ops Tapis Khas by the Terengganu Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department from June 12 to 14 arrested 243 individuals and seized drugs weighing 22.35 kilogrammes worth RM1.79 million.
