Turkmenistan Visit Achieves Objectives, Strengthens Bilateral Ties – Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described his official working visit to Turkmenistan as having achieved the objectives set out, particularly in strengthening the friendship and strategic cooperation between both countries.

He said the visit also opened a new chapter in efforts to expand bilateral cooperation in various areas of mutual interest, especially the energy sector, which holds great potential to be explored and harnessed for the prosperity of both nations.

“I extend my appreciation to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and all parties who had extended a most warm welcome to the Malaysian delegation.

“My salute to the ministry teams, the Embassy of Malaysia in Ashgabat, PETRONAS, the security personnel, as well as media colleagues who have played an important role in ensuring the smooth running of every matter,” he said in a Facebook post today.

During the visit, Anwar was accompanied by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Economy Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, as well as officials from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two-day official visit which began on 18 June is Anwar’s first visit to Turkmenistan since being appointed as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister in November 2022, at the invitation of Berdimuhamedov.
