Tuanku Muhriz Returns to Resolve Negeri Sembilan Impasse
KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, is expected to return to Negeri Sembilan from an overseas trip tonight to personally assess developments and seek a resolution to the ongoing impasse in the state.
The matter was confirmed by Chairman of the Secretariat for Loyalty and Support for the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Datuk Seri Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin.
He said Tuanku Muhriz wanted to resolve the impasse amicably and in accordance with the law and proper procedures.
“Nothing has happened to Tuanku Muhriz. His Royal Highness will return tonight at 9.50 pm, Insya-Allah.”
He said this when met by reporters at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Thursday.
According to him, Tuanku Muhriz is very close to the people and deeply concerned about their welfare, and genuinely wants to resolve the impasse amicably and in accordance with existing laws.
Meanwhile, Megat D Shahriman urged the authorities to take firm action against any party alleged to have acted irresponsibly and triggered the controversy surrounding the position of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
He said all parties should respect the law and the ongoing process, while refraining from actions that could undermine harmony and the royal institution of Negeri Sembilan.
“This is my opinion. I think everyone is entitled to their own views. But I feel that what is being done is like trying to defend the indefensible.
“I believe that whatever the Exco members have done today, they have not carried out the duties they were supposed to perform,” he said.
He said the matter would be serious if there had indeed been a breach of the law.
“I believe they have committed a serious offence, and I hope the authorities will take action, arrest or imprison any party involved, in accordance with what is provided under the law,” he said.
However, he said his side respected the legal process and would leave the matter to be resolved through the appropriate channels.
