Trump Threatens 100% Tariffs on BRICS Nations If They Create New Currency

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 100% tariff on BRICS nations if they introduce a new currency that could challenge the U.S. dollar in global trade.

Trump insisted that BRICS has “no chance” of replacing the U.S. dollar and warned that any country attempting to do so should be prepared to face heavy tariffs and economic consequences.

However, the Kremlin dismissed Trump’s threat, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov clarifying that BRICS has never formally discussed the creation of a common currency. Instead, the bloc is focused on strengthening investment platforms and economic cooperation among member states.

BRICS, which comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has explored alternatives to the U.S. dollar—particularly in response to Western sanctions against Russia. However, no final decision has been made regarding a new currency.

Trump also suggested imposing tariffs on Canada and Mexico to curb illegal drug trafficking and immigration into the U.S. He further linked potential tariffs on China to the country’s alleged role in the opioid crisis, particularly in the importation of fentanyl into the United States.
