The government will ensure that no TVET institution applicants are dissatisfied, says Zahid
PUTRAJAYA: The government promised that with the implementation of the new admission system, UP_TVET, no applications to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes will be turned down.
Between October 30 of last year and the final intake at TVET institutions in January of this year, there was a threefold rise, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
According to Zahid, some 100,000 applications are anticipated to be submitted to TVET schools by the July intake of this year.
“The July intake opened on March 25 and we expect to receive over 100,000 applications based on the early trend.”
Therefore, I have given the TVET secretariat instructions to make sure that no one is “left disappointed” when they are unable to find a place to study.
Speaking at the UP_TVET system’s launch today at Perdana Putra, he declared, “Our TVET system will accept all Malaysian citizens, even if they do not have academic certificates such as Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or others.”
According to Zahid, the government also prioritises high-level initiatives that are meant to satisfy business needs and increase graduates’ employability.
“We are currently prioritising high-level TVET programmes, including courses in Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, robotics, electric vehicles, and other courses relevant to current industry demands.”
The Human Resources Ministry created the new admission system, UP_TVET, to simplify all applications for admission into TVET colleges across 12 ministries and private entities in the country via a single channel.
The new system, according to Zahid, the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, will lessen confusion over the several application channels for TVET courses offered by multiple authorities.
Two types of applications are available under this new system: the Year-Round intake and the Main intake, which takes place twice a year in January and July.
“An endeavour to increase options for Malaysians to enrol in TVET programmes is the adaptable UP_TVET single-channel system, which accommodates different admission requirements.
“One aspect of this new system is that candidates will be able to receive multiple offers from institutions, and those candidates will be offered courses.” In the end, candidates are only able to accept one offer.”
Based on him, TVET learning and training possibilities in a wide range of fields, including engineering, construction, hospitality, and many more, will be primarily accessed through the new admittance method.
“With this facility, the government hopes more individuals can access TVET education, build careers, and succeed in the fields they are passionate about.”
