Telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, expressing deep concern about the growing security situation in Lebanon and regional tensions
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a telephone conversation with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, conveying Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1447H greetings and expressing deep concern over the escalating security situation in southern Lebanon and rising regional tensions.
During the discussion, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged Lebanon’s continued support in ensuring the safety and welfare of Malaysian Battalion (MALBATT) personnel under UNIFIL, enabling them to carry out their duties effectively in challenging circumstances.
The Malaysian Prime Minister emphasized the need for an expanded ceasefire across Lebanon, citing the severe humanitarian impact, including nearly one million displaced residents and over 1,000 casualties. He reaffirmed Malaysia’s support for Lebanese sovereignty, condemned attacks on public infrastructure, and called on all parties to ease tensions and return to dialogue.
Humanitarian concerns were also highlighted, underlining the urgent need for assistance to affected populations.
Concluding the conversation, Malaysia reiterated its commitment to continue working closely with Lebanon and international partners to restore peace, stability, and security in the region.
