Shila Amzah accuses former manager of undermining her career
KUALA LUMPUR: Acclaimed singer Shila Amzah has alleged that her previous manager deliberately undermined her music career in China several years ago.
In a recent report, Shila, 34, disclosed that she was blacklisted by Hunan TV after her former manager arranged multiple collaborations with the network without her knowledge.
Shila, who recently shared a brief video on Weibo, mentioned that her former manager failed to inform her about planned events with Hunan TV, resulting in accusations of contract violations and her subsequent blacklisting.
“My former manager caused significant trouble by not keeping me informed. The Hunan TV executives were upset because they had planned several events that I was unaware of,” she said.
Although Shila had initially intended to address the issue publicly, she chose not to due to a lack of confidence.
“Watching my old I Am A Singer videos is upsetting,” she shared. “I nearly gave up because of the difficulties I faced, many of which were due to my former manager’s actions.”
Despite these challenges, Shila reassured her fans that she is “in a better place emotionally” and taking good care of herself. The mother of two mentioned that her new manager is actively seeking opportunities for her to make a return in China.
“I’m working on new songs and albums, including one in Chinese. I have new goals and aspirations, and I hope everyone will continue to support me. No matter how tough it gets, I believe there are brighter days ahead,” she said.
Shila, the daughter of veteran singer, actor, and television host Datuk Amir Amzah Salleh (ND Lala), gained significant success in China after finishing third in I Am A Singer 2014. Her powerful vocals won over fans across China and increased her Weibo followers from a thousand to over 2 million.
