KUALA LUMPUR: Senate Mutang Tagal passed away today at the age of sixty-nine. At the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, he passed away at 11.46 am, according to the Dewan Negara president’s office. In a statement, it stated, “More details regarding his funeral will be revealed later. “While on a work trip to Azerbaijan, Mutang became ill and was receiving treatment at IJN.

Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was replaced by him when he was named president of Dewan Negara on February 19, making him the first native Sarawakian to occupy the position. Having had legal training, he was from the Lun Bawang tribe and the brother of the late Judson Sakai Tagal, the first Ba Kelalan assemblyman and a former assistant minister of communications for Sarawak.
Mutang , a member of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, represented Bukit Mas in parliament twice, from 1982 and 1990.He left behind three children and his wife, Datin Ho May Leng.
