Puteri UMNO reminds MUDA to respect court decisions

KUALA LUMPUR – Puteri UMNO Malaysia has reminded the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) not to overstep decisions made by the courts, but instead to function as a fair and principled pressure group.

Its Information Chief, Shamellya Norazizi, said respect for court rulings should be the basis of MUDA’s actions, including in matters involving its former president, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

“If this principle is upheld by MUDA, why was the same stance not taken in Syed Saddiq’s case? A pressure group should be fair and not selective, whether dealing with allies or opponents,” she said in a statement.

Shamellya added that the role of a pressure group is to provide checks and balances and must be carried out consistently, regardless of political interests.

“As with UMNO, none of our grassroots members campaigned to reopen Syed Saddiq’s case, and we respected the court’s decision regarding the former MUDA president. Likewise, we hope MUDA members will respect existing court rulings,” she said.

She also urged MUDA to reflect on its own position before overstepping boundaries.

“It is better to measure one’s own abilities before overreaching,” she said.
