PUTRAJAYA, Aug 22 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim joined thousands of worshippers for Friday prayers at Masjid Putra today.
Anwar arrived at the mosque around 1:15 p.m. and was welcomed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr. Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.
The sermon, titled “Rise to Defend, Strengthen Brotherhood”, was delivered by Masjid Putra’s Grand Imam Dr. Muhammad Zakuwa Rodzali, while Ustaz Muhamad Nabil led the prayer attended by more than 4,000 congregants.
In his sermon, Dr. Muhammad Zakuwa highlighted the ongoing atrocities in Palestine, stressing that the Zionist regime, backed by major powers, continues to massacre civilians, resulting in thousands of deaths, tens of thousands injured, and widespread destruction of homes and mosques.
He underscored that helping Palestine is a duty of faith, whether through financial contributions, prayers, diplomacy, or any effort to end the injustice.
“Bullying is an act of oppression that destroys dignity and lives. It must be eradicated by all parties, starting with educating ourselves not to harm others,” he said.
After the prayer, Anwar took time to greet and interact with the congregation before departing the mosque.
Earlier, the Prime Minister also attended the Cendekiawan Malaysia-Indonesia (Malindo MADANI) program organized by the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM), where he received the Kuala Lumpur Malindo MADANI Declaration.
