PN Lawyers Send Letter to RoS, Seek Clarification on Eight BERSATU Complaints – Tuan Ibrahim
KOTA BHARU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) is seeking clarification from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over eight complaints lodged by BERSATU that led to restrictions being imposed on the coalition’s activities.
PN Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the coalition’s lawyers sent a letter to the RoS on Monday seeking two things, including a meeting with the RoS Director-General and details of the eight complaints lodged by BERSATU.
“We want to know the contents of the eight complaints. To date, we do not know the details of the allegations made by BERSATU.
“We believe the RoS should act fairly and investigate the complaints first before imposing any restrictions on PN’s activities,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim, who is also Kubang Kerian MP, said PN requires an explanation from the RoS regarding the reasons behind the decision, particularly if the coalition’s activities are to be suspended or restricted.
“If the RoS wants to suspend or restrict our activities, we want an explanation. We are in a difficult situation because we do not know the basis for the action.
“We are asking to know what the eight allegations are. We need an explanation so that we can understand the issue and respond accordingly,” he said.
He said PN also believed BERSATU should be given an opportunity to respond to the complaints lodged against the coalition.
“We only want to ensure that BERSATU responds to the allegations. We need to know what the complaints are before we can provide a response.
“We suddenly received a letter restricting our activities, yet we were not informed of the details of the complaints,” he said.
Tuan Ibrahim said PN had not expelled BERSATU from the coalition.
“We did not remove BERSATU from PN. As far as we know, BERSATU was not called to attend the meeting, but we are unaware of any other issues.
“That is why we are asking the RoS to explain the factors behind the restrictions imposed on PN’s activities,” he said.
He said PN would await the RoS’ response to the letter submitted through its lawyers.
“PN’s position is that the matter needs to be investigated and the coalition should be given an explanation regarding the complaints and the reasons why the action was taken,” he said.
The media previously reported that the RoS suspended all PN activities effective Sept 23 following a notice issued to the coalition seeking an explanation over complaints lodged by BERSATU.
