Former UiTM Holdings CEO Pleads Not Guilty to RM37.37 Million Criminal Breach of Trust Charge
SHAH ALAM: Former UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Azlizan Fadzil, 53, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of criminal breach of trust involving RM37.37 million nine years ago.
Azlizan, who was in a wheelchair, claimed trial after the charge was read before Judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin.
“Not guilty,” said Azlizan, who was dressed in a light blue shirt and was allowed to remain seated outside the dock.
According to the charge, Azlizan, in his capacity as CEO of UiTM Holdings, was entrusted with RM37,374,612.68 allocated for investment in the development of a 50-megawatt (MW) large-scale solar photovoltaic power generation project in Gambang, Pahang.
He is accused of committing criminal breach of trust involving the funds by dishonestly misappropriating them to make various payments for purposes other than those stipulated.
The offence was allegedly committed at the UiTM Shah Alam branch of Affin Bank Berhad here between Feb 2 and Oct 2, 2017.
If convicted, he faces punishment under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between two and 20 years, whipping and a fine.
