KUALA LUMPUR: The development of affordable housing projects in the capital must be expedited to meet the high demand, particularly for the low-income (B40) and middle-income (M40) groups, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to the Wilayahku portal, Anwar stated that delaying these projects would result in higher housing costs.

“If approval is delayed, the cost of housing will increase. The companies doing the construction will not lose but will make a profit.

“The costs of corruption and banking fees will ultimately burden the buyers. If this continues, the country will not progress, and the people will not be well-served,” he said during his speech at the Launch and Groundbreaking Ceremony of Residensi Suria Madani in Taman Desa.

Anwar emphasized that housing development should also meet the criteria set by the public, including facility provisions and comfort.

He also requested that the progress of each project be presented periodically to the Federal Territories Department and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Also present at the event were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming, and Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
