KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took the time to engage with Malaysians in Ashgabat during his official visit to Turkmenistan.

He used the opportunity to share the MADANI Government’s commitment to continuously strengthen and enliven ties with Malaysians abroad.

Anwar said the diaspora group will be ensured of remaining connected to the homeland, valued and recognised as part of the pulse and spirit of national development.

“Alhamdulillah, I had the opportunity to celebrate with the Malaysian diaspora in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Although far from our beloved homeland, their spirit and warmth of closeness felt as though we were gathered in Kuala Lumpur.

“They are the nation’s unofficial ambassadors who have the conscience to build the country’s reputation and image, expand networks and elevate the nation’s dignity forward,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Anwar said he also explained the objectives of the visit to Ashgabat, which is not only focused on trade, investment and economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister said the visit is an effort to expand friendship between nations, strengthen mutual understanding and open up new avenues of cooperation that would benefit both parties.

Anwar is currently on a two-day official visit to Turkmenistan, his first official visit to the Central Asian country at the invitation of Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, following Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Malaysia in December 2024.
