SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) is aiming to secure more than 20 seats in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election as it seeks to retain control of the state government and strengthen its mandate from voters.

PH Negeri Sembilan chairman and DAP leader Anthony Loke said the coalition’s target is based on its previous electoral performance, having won 20 state assembly seats and formed the state government following earlier elections.

Speaking after chairing the Negeri Sembilan DAP state committee meeting on Monday, Loke said all component parties within PH are committed to working together to defend the state administration and deliver a convincing victory at the polls.

“We are fully prepared for the state election, and PH Negeri Sembilan is targeting at least more than 20 state assembly seats in this election,” he said.

Loke, who is also the Member of Parliament for Seremban, confirmed that he will defend the Chennah state seat in the coming election.

He also said all 11 incumbent DAP assemblymen are ready to contest and defend the seats currently held by the party.

The Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly was officially dissolved on June 5 after Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun announced the move to pave the way for the state election, which must be held within 60 days.

In the last state election held in 2023, PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) formed the state government after winning 31 of the 36 seats in the state assembly. PH secured 17 seats, while BN won 14. Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional (PN) captured five seats.

Negeri Sembilan became the second state to dissolve its legislative assembly ahead of a state election, following Johor, which dissolved its assembly on June 1.

With campaigning preparations intensifying, political observers expect the upcoming contest to be closely watched as PH seeks to consolidate its position while opposition parties attempt to make further gains in the state.
