PH Selangor leader to seek Noorazli’s removal as Dengkil assembly coordinator

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Selangor information chief Abbas Azmi will meet Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari soon to propose that Umno Sepang chief Noorazli Said be removed as the Dengkil state constituency coordinator.

Abbas said the proposal followed Noorazli’s remarks at the 2026 Umno general assembly on Sept 12, which he claimed did not reflect the qualities expected of a leader holding a government-appointed position.

He said the state government should consider whether an individual was suitable to hold such a position, particularly when the person’s public statements could affect the wider community.

“Action needs to be taken immediately so that leaders appointed to such positions do not make statements that could have a negative impact on society,” he said at the program tonourment pickleball, Seri Kembangan.

Abbas, who is also Amanah’s mobilisation chief, said he would raise the matter directly with Amirudin at a meeting in the near future.

Noorazli, who is also Selangor Umno treasurer, came under fire after making a joke involving a Catholic priest and a nun during his speech at the Umno assembly. The remarks sparked criticism from several political leaders and prompted a police report.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, Sabah BN chairman Salleh Said Keruak and Tuaran MP Wilfred Madius Tangau were among those who called on Noorazli to apologise over the remarks.

On Sept 14, Noorazli initially said he was prepared to apologise if his remarks had caused misunderstanding or offended anyone. He later amended his Facebook post to state that he was apologising, rather than merely being prepared to do so.

Noorazli said the anecdote had been intended as an analogy about the importance of focus, perseverance and wisdom in achieving one’s goals, and denied any intention to insult or demean Christianity or any other religion.

Meanwhile, Abbas said there had yet to be any decision on whether PH would cooperate with Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Melaka state election.

He said negotiations on seat allocation among PH component parties for the Melaka polls were, however, almost complete.

Abbas said the coalition could still decide to work with another political grouping before candidates were officially announced, indicating that the question of PH-BN cooperation remained open.
