BUKIT MERTAJAM: Following a raid on the premises yesterday, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) discovered that a company selling snack crackers was using an outdated Malaysian halal logo.

Penang KPDN director S Jegan stated that the operation, which was carried out in coordination with the Halal Management Division and the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP), targeted a two-storey shophouse that was operated as a factory.

“We discovered an expired Malaysian halal logo on the packaging of their products, resulting in the seizure of RM6,748 worth of cracker products,” he said in a statement on Thursday (July 11).

The issue is being examined under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Halal) Order 2011, which specifies that no food, commodities, or services may be described as halal unless certified by the relevant authority.

Jegan further urged traders not to use the Malaysian halal logo without certified by either the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) or the state Islamic Religious Council. – Bernama
