KOTA BHARU: Fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low must be brought to court in Malaysia to face charges related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, regardless of any action taken by other countries.

PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that Malaysia has its own legal system and does not necessarily have to follow the decision or stance of the United States regarding the case involving Jho Low.

“Jho Low must be brought back to be tried in Malaysia because this country is the party most affected by his actions, which have had a huge impact on the economy,” he told reporters after officiating the Pasir Mas PAS Division Annual General Assembly here today.

In that regard, he expressed hope that the authorities would expedite the legal process, including obtaining the extradition of Jho Low to enable him to be tried in this country.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that Malaysia remains firm in its stance based on the legal process against Jho Low, despite reports that the fugitive businessman may receive a pardon from United States President Donald Trump.

Previously, international media reported that Jho Low was among approximately 250 individuals being considered for a pardon from Trump in conjunction with the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the country’s Independence Day today.
