Onn Hafiz Takes Oath As Johor MB For Second Term

JOHOR BAHRU: Machap State Legislative Assemblyman, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has taken his oath as Johor Menteri Besar for a second term after Barisan Nasional (BN) secured a landslide victory in the 16th Johor State Election.

The swearing-in ceremony took place before the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail at Istana Bukit Serene here this afternoon.

Onn Hafiz received his letter of appointment and recited the oath of office at the Presentation of Letter of Appointment and Declaration Ceremony for the Johor Menteri Besar, held at the Audience Hall of Istana Bukit Serene.

The ceremony began with the reading of the Johor Menteri Besar Letter of Appointment by Johor State Secretary, Datuk Mohammed Ridha Abd Kadir.

Also present was Johor Royal Council President, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Ramli.

Earlier, the vehicle carrying Onn Hafiz entered Istana Bukit Serene at 3.41 pm and was seen exiting at 4.40 pm.

This morning, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim granted an audience to Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at Istana Pasir Pelangi.

The meeting, which lasted nearly an hour, was also attended by Onn Hafiz, who is also Johor BN Chairman.

Onn Hafiz was previously appointed as the 19th Johor Menteri Besar on March 15, 2022, after BN won the 15th Johor State Election with a landslide victory, securing 40 out of 56 State Legislative Assembly seats.

In the 16th state election, BN won 48 out of 56 State Legislative Assembly seats contested.

He successfully defended the Machap state seat, securing 20,382 votes, defeating Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Nur Hafiz Roslan who received 5,007 votes, thus winning with a majority of 15,375 votes.
