NS Election: MB Swearing-In Ceremony at 11am, Ismail Lasim Among Names Tipped

SEREMBAN: UMNO Kuala Pilah Division Chief Datuk Ismail Lasim is among three names being mentioned as candidates for the new Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar.

Ismail, 67, who is also an UMNO Supreme Council member, won the Juasseh State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN) yesterday.

The swearing-in ceremony for the Menteri Besar is scheduled to take place at Istana Besar Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, at approximately 11am.

Besides Ismail, another name being mentioned is Negeri Sembilan UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman and Jelebu Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, 62, who successfully retained the Pertang DUN seat.

Also on the list is former Negeri Sembilan Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Asna Amin, 47, who won the Lenggeng DUN seat.

As of the time of writing, Ismail was among those seen attending the swearing-in ceremony for the new Menteri Besar at Istana Besar Seri Menanti.

The results of yesterday’s Negeri Sembilan State Election saw Barisan Nasional (BN) secure 18 DUN seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won 11 seats, enabling the two coalitions to form the state government with a two-thirds majority.

BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had an audience with Tuanku Muhriz at Istana Hinggap here last night to present the names of three candidates for the Menteri Besar post.

A total of 36 DUN seats were contested in this state election, involving 103 candidates.

In the 15th Negeri Sembilan State Election, Pakatan Harapan (PH) won 17 DUN seats, followed by BN (14) and PN (five), resulting in the formation of a PH-BN state government.

The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on 5 June after BN Negeri Sembilan withdrew its support for the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun on 27 April, leading to the state election being held.
