ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested nine men following a violent altercation that erupted at a beach in Tanjung Kupang, Johor, earlier this month.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan said the suspects, aged between 22 and 37, were detained in a series of operations carried out around Johor Baru from Jan 18 to Jan 20.
Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred on Jan 17, after the group allegedly consumed alcohol at the beach before the situation escalated into a fight.
A local man sustained injuries to his head, body, and hand and was taken to Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor Baru for medical treatment.
ACP Kumarasan said police checks found that eight of the suspects have prior criminal records, including offenses related to drugs. Further screening also showed that four of them tested positive for marijuana.
Police are continuing investigations into the case under relevant sections of the law and have reminded the public to avoid disorderly behavior that could endanger public safety.
