New Deputy IGP to Be Announced Soon – Saifuddin
KULIM: The appointment of the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Deputy IGP) will be announced soon, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
He said the appointment process had been completed in accordance with procedures stipulated under the Federal Constitution, including seeking the views of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“The process began with the Police Force Commission (SPP), which I chair, together with the committee appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with the Constitution.
“Everything has been completed. We have selected the candidate, and the announcement will be made very soon — within the next few hours or in the next day or two,” he said.
Saifuddin Nasution was speaking to reporters after conducting a monitoring visit to a development project under the First Rolling Plan (RP1) of the 13th Malaysia Plan, coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department here today.
He said several names had been considered and discussed before the subsequent stages of the appointment process were carried out.
On the eligibility criteria for the Deputy IGP position, Saifuddin Nasution said all officers holding the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) were eligible for consideration.
He said there are 25 officers holding the rank of CP in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), in addition to three others who hold the rank in a special capacity following appointments by the Inspector-General of Police.
In July, Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who reached mandatory retirement, handed over his duties to Special Branch Director Datuk Seri Ibrahim Darus, who is currently serving as acting Deputy IGP.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the Kampung Badlishah/Ayer Putih-Junjong road project would provide an alternative route for road users travelling between Serdang, Kedah, and Seberang Perai, Penang.
He said the construction of the new 12-kilometre road would reduce travel time by more than 30 minutes, bringing positive benefits to the public.
