Negeri Sembilan Voters Choose, Determine New Mandate Today

SEREMBAN: Voters in Negeri Sembilan will fulfil their responsibility today to elect new representatives in the 16th State Election (PRN).

A total of 859,760 registered voters, including 7,391 postal voters, will determine which political coalition will be given the mandate to govern Negeri Sembilan after the 14-day campaigning period ended at midnight last night.

The voting process will begin at 8 am simultaneously at 401 polling centres across the state involving 1,668 channels, before closing completely at 6 pm.

The Election Commission (SPR) targets a voter turnout of between 72 and 75 per cent, with results expected to be known as early as 10 pm, while full results are expected before midnight.

Last Tuesday, early voting saw 91.06 per cent or 14,995 early voters involving military and police personnel and their spouses fulfil their respective responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasts weather across almost all areas in Negeri Sembilan involving the districts of Seremban, Jempol, Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Tampin, Port Dickson and Rembau to be clear throughout the morning until noon, while in the afternoon, most areas in nearly all districts are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms.

A total of 36 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats are being contested in this state election, involving 103 candidates.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) dominates the contest with 36 candidates, followed by Barisan Nasional (BN) with 25, Bersatu with 24 and Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 11 candidates.

Also contesting are Berjasa, ASLI and the Socialist Party of Malaysia, each fielding one candidate, as well as four Independent candidates.

In this state election, 22 DUN seats face three-cornered contests, 11 DUN seats see one-on-one contests, and two DUN seats each involve four and five-cornered contests.

In the 15th Negeri Sembilan state election, PH won 17 DUN seats, followed by BN (14) and PN (five).
