Najib’s Residence Draws Attention, Return Status Remains Uncertain

KUALA LUMPUR: The residence of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Jalan Langgak Duta here has become the focus of attention after several vehicles were seen entering the road leading to the property.

More than 50 local and international media personnel have gathered outside the former Pekan MP’s residence since as early as 10 am to monitor the latest developments.

However, Najib’s return to the residence remains uncertain, with media personnel at the scene still awaiting official confirmation.

At the same time, a group of Najib’s supporters was also seen gathering outside the residence.

The media and supporters gathered following the decision of the 64th Pardons Board Meeting for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.

Under the decision, Sultan Ibrahim, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.

The order is subject to Najib paying a RM50 million fine, in addition to complying with the conditions imposed throughout the period of his house arrest.

The Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department said that if Najib fails to comply with any of the conditions, the conditional pardon will be revoked and he must immediately resume serving the remainder of his sentence in prison.

The latest decision follows the deferment of Najib’s earlier pardon application at the 63rd Pardons Board Meeting on Sept 11.

Najib had been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence in the case involving the misappropriation of RM42 million in SRC International funds.
