Najib’s House Arrest: ‘Still No Development on Fine Payment’ – Attorney General

KUALA LUMPUR: As the situation entered its fifth day on Tuesday, there was still no sign of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak leaving prison to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

A Sinar Harian check as of 1pm found the area in front of Kajang Prison calm and under control.

There was no movement involving any prominent individuals, with only the usual movement of logistics vehicles and Prisons Department personnel entering and leaving the facility.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, when contacted by Sinar Harian, said that as of today, the RM50 million fine involving the former Prime Minister had yet to be paid. The payment is required before he is allowed to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under conditional house arrest.

“So far, there has been no further development regarding the payment of the fine.

“The Prisons Department is also expected to issue standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the implementation of his (Najib’s) house arrest. The SOPs will detail aspects such as visits, security and the monitoring of his movements,” he said on Tuesday.

The latest update on the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund was provided last Saturday by UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who said the amount collected had reached RM1 million.

However, as of Tuesday, the latest amount collected remains unknown.

Najib, 73, has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022.
